Aquaculture

Aquaculture is the fastest-growing food-production sector globally with sustainability and technology transforming the field. The session covers recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and land-based farming, fish genetics and selective breeding (AquaBounty AquAdvantage salmon, genome-edited tilapia), sustainable aquafeed integrating insect protein and algae, aquaculture disease management including sea-lice biological control, traceability and certification (ASC, BAP), and the comparison of ocean vs land-based farming. Discussion addresses offshore aquaculture frontier development, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA), shrimp farming sustainability challenges, the role of aquaculture in food security, and consumer perception of farmed vs wild seafood.
